Former U.S. Sen. and possible GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum will visit Charleston this morning to back Republican Statehouse candidate Peter McCoy.
McCoy is challenging Democratic incumbent Anne Peterson Hutto and Green challenger Eugene Platt in District 115, which covers most of James Island.
Also, McCoy's boss, 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson, will appear with Santorum and McCoy at the invitation-only fundraiser breakfast at a downtown Charleston restaurant.
McCoy works as an assistant solicitor.
Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, campaigned in the Lowcountry this year on behalf of his former U.S. House colleague, Rep. Gresham Barrett, who eventually lost in the Republican primary.
Santorum has been mentioned as a possible presidential contender in 2012, and GOP hopefuls are expected to arrive here with increasing frequency, given South Carolina's first-in-the-South presidential primary.
